Certain crop circles defy easy explanations—and Saskatchewan’s most famous UFO/UAP encounter is a prime example. Known as the Langenburg Event, this intriguing incident marks the seventh story featured in Canada’s Unexplained Phenomena coin series, captured from the viewpoint of a direct witness.
On the morning of September 1, 1974, a farmer swathing his fields near Langenburg, Saskatchewan, noticed five gleaming, metallic objects by the edge of a slough. As he approached, he saw that these saucer-shaped objects were rapidly rotating and hovering just above the ground. He continued watching until, without a sound, they lifted into the sky, leaving behind a mysterious vapor trail. These objects didn’t vanish without leaving evidence; according to an RCMP report, “five distinct circles” appeared where they had been, suggesting “heavy air or exhaust pressure” over the high grass. This was compelling enough to attract serious attention both locally and internationally.
