These exclusive one-kilogram gold coins, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, are so rare that the opportunity to own one is incredibly limited.
From the gold to the striking process and even the symbolic design itself, our first gold coin was Canadian in every way. Its engraved rendering of Canada's coat of arms (as it appeared in 1912) symbolizes a burgeoning nation and represents a distinguished milestone—one of the many that followed as the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint evolved into today's Royal Canadian Mint.
As part of our yearlong celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, the Royal Canadian Mint reflects on a gold piece with deep historic significance for Canada and the Mint. The first Canadian gold coin is brought to life once more—this time, in one kilogram of 99.99% pure gold, with a few present-day elements to remind us of how far we've come together.

Your coin features a near-faithful reproduction of W. H. J. Blackmore's design for the first Canadian gold coins, struck between 1912 and 1914. The image centers on the Canadian coat of arms, as it appeared before 1921: a quartered shield composed of the provincial arms of the Dominion of Canada (Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick). Adding to the majesty of the design, the shield is encircled by crossed maple boughs and includes the inscriptions "CANADA," "2017," and "2500 DOLLARS." The obverse features the official Canada 150 privy mark beneath the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded wood case with a black beauty box.
